Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) is striving hard for promotion of technical education not only in the province of Punjab, but also in the Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas. A number of 753 institutes are affiliated with PBTE.
Professor Zia Haider Zaidi, chairman PBTE said while giving his inaugural address on the occasion of medal award ceremony - 2007, organised by the Board for the position holders of annul examination 2007 of three years Diploma of Associate Engineers (DAE) and Diploma in Commerce (D.Com) examination. The board conducts examination of 134 subjects in 32 trades and technologies across the Punjab, AJK and Northern Areas. It examines scores of thousand students and issues certificates/diplomas to theses pass-outs.
According to the 'Huner Mand Punjab' policy of the government of the Punjab, youth is taking interest to acquire technical education. Presently, workload has been increased due to launch of TEVTA Special Training Program (TSTP), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Matric Technical programmes by TEVTA.
PBTE is dealing with the emerging responsibilities systematically and effectively.
While apprising the Governor of the Punjab the details of affiliated institutions with PBTE, Zaidi said, 411 Technical, Commercial and Vocational Institutions of Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), 342 technical & I.T institutes of other govt. departments' & private sector are affiliated with the Board.
It is a matter of pride for PBTE to conduct annual examinations in 32 sectors/disciplines. "Three years Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) is our major examination in which large number of students appear in demand-driven technologies.
The PBTE also conducts examinations of 2 years Diploma of Commerce (D.Com), 2 years Diploma of Business Administration (DBA), 2 years vocational, one-year vocational, one-year diploma in Information Technology(DIT), one-year Diploma of Hardware Engineering (DCHE), six and three months duration short courses.
Zaidi further told the governor that according to the vision of the Government to promote technical education across the province, TEVTA has launched Special Training Program (TSTP) by offering three months duration short courses to provide 100,000 trained force to the industry. So far the PBTE has conducted the examination of 75 thousands out of this 100,000. The PBTE chairman said: "our system to conduct examinations is not only recognised at national level but also recognised at international level." He also said that TEVTA has set up new technical training centres at selected Dini Madaris.
