Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the project of scheme-33, initiated 31 year back and which suffered from stalemate and crisis, is being revived by spending huge funds and with a new planning so that relief is provided to people.
He stated this while laying the foundation stone of 54, 48 and 46 inch dia RCC sewerage pipeline being laid in Sadaat- e Amroha Society in Saadi Town, near Safoora Goth, Scheme-33 at a cost of Rs 5.5 million here on Sunday.
The plan envisages laying of 1000 feet of pipeline of 54 inch dia, 2250 feet of 48 inch dia, 950 feet of 36 inch dia and 4450 feet of 30 inch dia besides construction of 110 manholes.
The whole project will be completed in four months and some half a million people will be benefitted with the scheme. Mustafa Kamal said on completion of the project, residents of Sectors 34-A, 35-A, 36-A and 46-A, ACHS Post Office, KESC Society, Central Information Society, Saadi Town, Sadaat- e- Amroha Society, Rim Jhim Tower, Aga Khan Flats and other adjoining societies where a proper sewerage disposal system was non-existent, would be benefitted.
He said the construction of signal-free corridors, construction of roads on international standard and other mega projects will provide a boost to economic and commercial activities in Karachi and the city will usher into a new era of progress.
However, he made it clear that these projects and steps being taken are not for getting votes but only to provide basic facilities and relief to people. He said despite stepping into the 21st century, the basic problems of water and sewerage in this 7th biggest city of the world offer us a moment to ponder. But we are constrained to take up work on these basic problems on priority basis after passage of 60 years.
He said if this work had been carried out in the past, the present city government would not have had to spend a big amount of Rs 17 billion on laying underground water and sewerage systems.
He pointed out that development activities could not have been carried out without doing these fundamental works and, therefore, city government is working in all the city areas on equal basis to provide basic facilities. "We consider it our basic responsibility and speedy development and service is our vision", he announced.
Mustafa Kamal referred to problems being faced because of lacking command of unity and said still our spirit of service does not lag behind and we are moving forward by encountering all the problems.
Earlier Secretary of Amroha Society, Haider Ali Naqvi presented the welcome address and paid tributes to Nazim Mustafa Kamal on this sewerage line project and thanked him on behalf of the area residents. The ceremony was also addressed by MPA Yusuf Munir and Nazim Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Wasey Jalil.
