The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday constituted a special Curriculum Revision Committee (CRC) for Pakistan Studies to revise the syllabus.
HEC Member (Academics) Dr Riazul Haq Tariq chaired the meeting of experts on Pakistan Studies to template the curriculum in accordance with developed framework by the convenors of NCRC in basic and social sciences.
The committee resolved that curriculum of BS Pakistan Studies program should be brought up to international standard to deliver a broad-based knowledge to the students. In this connection, the committee suggested several changes according to a uniform framework for BS given by the HEC.
The committee resolved that total number of credit hours for BS Pakistan Studies will be 131 and duration of the program would be four-year or eight semesters. In addition, 10 specific foundation courses of 30 credit hours and 14 major courses, including research project and internship were also suggested.
After a lengthy deliberation, the committee developed a framework and revised the courses incorporating the new courses. The process is ongoing and members were assigned to develop course details according to their specialisation.
Earlier, Dr Riaz, in his address of welcome, gave a brief description of the structure and framework for bachelor degree program to be followed for all disciplines that include basic, applied and social sciences. He told the members that this particular framework was developed by a committee of experts comprising convenors of all NCRCs in basic, applied and social sciences.
