Muttahida Majlis-e-Ammal central leader and Naib Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Liaquat Baloch has urged all the opposition parties to forge unity to put an end to dictatorship and to take part in the general elections under the supervision of an interim government of national consensus and an independent election commission.
Addressing a news conference outside his residence here on Friday, Baloch said unity of the opposition parties was need of the hour. He added that general elections in the presence of emergency, Pervez Musharraf and PCO would be meaningless. He hoped that all the opposition parties would unite on a single agenda to reject the programme of General Musharraf.
He was of the view that General Pervez Musharraf is no more acceptable either in uniform or without it. He held Musharraf responsible for the bad name earned by the country after his November 2, action.
Regarding tension prevailing between the JUI and Jamaat-e-Islami, he said leaders of both the parties discussed the conflicting issues in the MMA's Supreme Council meeting and were of the unanimous view that MMA should remain intact to foil the international conspiracies.
To a question, he said that the process of establishing contacts with different parties had been completed and the All Parties Conference (APC) was going to be held soon. He added that an important meeting of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) was being held on November 24 in which various matters would be discussed. He said that he had contacted Nawaz Sharif on Thursday and Friday and now he was all set to come back to the country, which is a good sign.
About the rough treatment meted out to Imran Khan at hands of IJT during his visit to Punjab University, Liaquat Balouch said the incident was deplorable and condemnable.
