Ministry of Women Development is focusing on empowering women socially, economically and politically taking into account the cultural norms of the society, said Barrister Shahida Jamil, Federal Minister for Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education on Friday.
Talking to United Nations Development Funds for Women (Unifem) country director Alice Shakelford who called on her here, the minister said that the government was working on empowering women in decision making process by including them in local government through joint electorate with 33 percent representation in the parliament.
Barrister Shahida said that the government believes in extending cooperation to the areas where the women were suffering because of discrimination. She also expressed her views on the contents of the CSDA report discussed in the United Nations Meeting in May 2007. The minister assured the Unifem country director her full support for creating awareness for the rights of women with the cooperation of Unifem.
The matters of mutual interests with reference to Unifem cooperation with the ministry for the political, social and economic uplift and betterment of the women in Pakistan were also discussed.
