Thousands of hard-line religious Israelis flocked to Jerusalem's Western Wall Monday afternoon to pray for the failure of the international conference on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is expected to relaunch peace talks between the sides.
Israel Radio quoted speakers at the rally as denouncing the conference, which gets under way in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, and asking whether the Israeli delegation "represented the Jewish people".
They complained that Israel was run as a "constitutional dictatorship." A second rally, organised by the Yesha council of West Bank settlements, was slated to take place Monday night, adjacent to the official residence of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
