Argentine export commitments of 2006/07 corn stood at 13.505 million tonnes by November 23, unchanged from a week earlier, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report. By the same date last year, Argentina had sold 8.585 million tonnes of the grain.
During last week, the secretariat sales of 170,000 tonnes to Spain, 140,000 to South Africa and Yemen, 120,000 to Morocco, 100,000 to Algeria, 80,000 to Peru, 40,000 to Kuwait, 35,000 to Libya, 18,000 tonnes to Britain, 12,000 to Senegal and 10,000 tonnes to Portugal.
It also made a negative adjustment to sales of 50,000 to Brazil and 815,000 to unspecified destinations. Argentina's government estimates the corn harvest at a record 21.8 million tonnes, while the US Department of Agriculture forecasts the country's 2006/07 exports at 15.8 million tonnes.
