The Senate Committee on Environment asked the government on Thursday to declare 2008 as Environmental Protection Year, and also to initiate strong public campaign to educate the people against dust, environmental pollution, and black smoke emitted by vehicles.
The Committee also urged strong damage control against environmental pollution and dust spread by vehicular emissions, industrial units, tanneries, and kilns. Senator Muhammad Ali Brohi, chairing the Committee meeting, said environmental pollution was a threat to the economy and a bane to the people.
