More than 8,000 lawyers of 13 districts of Southern Punjab observed black day on Thursday when Pervez Musharraf took oath as civilian President describing it unconstitutional. Lawyers of High Court Bar Multan and Bahawalpur and District Bars staged demonstration in the district courts and shouted slogans against Pervez Musharraf Government.
Vice Chairman of Pakistan Bar Council Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig said," I appeal to all political parties and leaders of leading parties Mian Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto to boycott the elections and not to validate Election-08 by taking part in it,"
He said that rulers had planned to introduce a "hung Government" to keep it under its thumb. He said that free, fair, impartial and transparent elections were not possible under emergency and PCO. A number of senior lawyers spoke against emergency and demanded for immediate reinstatement of deposed judges of the apex court. Lawyers wore black armbands and hoisted black flags atop of bar rooms.
