Provincial Election Commission (PEC) Sindh has rejected nomination papers of 46 candidates filed on seats reserved for women in Sindh Assembly as scrutiny process continued on Thursday. As many as 133 candidates filed their nomination forms during the November 21 to November 26 against the 29 seats allocated for women in the provincial assembly of Sindh.
According to officials at PEC Sindh, contest papers of 82 candidates had been accepted while papers of five candidates were put on hold. Chaudhry Qamaruz Zaman, Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh, informed that scrutiny process was underway at an accelerated pace and hopefully be finished before the stipulated timeframe.
Interestingly the papers of former Education Minister for Sindh Dr Hameeda Khauro has been rejected by the Election Commission due to incomplete information in the nomination form.
Among the prominent names whose papers have been accepted are former Sindh Minister Dr Saeeda Malik, former minister Afshan Imran, Dr Huma Mir, Salma Waheed Murad, Nuzhat Pathan of Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Dr Naila Inam of PML (F), Shazia Mari, Humaira Alwani of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian and Nadia Gabol, Bilqees Mukhtar of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The names of the 13 candidates of PPPP whose nomination papers have been rejected are Khaursheed Abbas Dashti, Nasreen Chandio, Mumtaz Fatima, Salma Sohoo, Hakim Zadi, Shama Asif, Nasim Niazi, Firdous Anjum, H Saadia Siddiqi, Nafesa Munawwar Raja, Zahida Perveen, Khairunnisa, Zahida of PPPP.
The names of 16 rejected candidates of MQM are Seema Zareen, Sikandar Khatoon, Qamar Jahan, Rana Mazhar, Farzana Rajput, Kiran Masood, Humaira Khanum, Musarrat Jabeen, Afroz Jehan, Surriay Ghani, Naheed Ayub, Rafia Ahtisham, Farzana, Tasneem Bano, Rizwana Naz, Noor Jehan.
Seven names from PML (Q) are Afshan Imran, Farah Naz, Ameen Nasira Chaudhry, Rifat Zaidi, Saba Rabbani Tiwana, Rifat Jebeen Qureshi, Rutna Devi, Candidates of PML (N) are Noorul Ain, Shabana Yousuf and Riffat Fatiman, names of PML (F) candidates are Begum Gulzarun Nar, Saira Naseer while from MMA papers of Zainab Bibi, Kulsoom Nizamani and Khursheed Zareen are rejected.
The names of the applicants whose cases have been put on pending are Amena alias Saima Jabeen of PML (Q), Shazia Batool of Awami National Party, Rafia Azam of MMA, Shahnaz Begum of PML (N). The officials of Election Commission said that list for seats reserved for minorities in Sindh assembly would be issued today after scrutiny of submitted nomination forms.
