Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) will hold its tenth Sustainable Development Conference (SDC) titled "Sustainable Solutions: A Spotlight on South Asian Research", from December 10 to 12. This was stated by Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri, Executive Director (Interim), at a press conference, organised by the SDPI, here on Tuesday.
The SDPI will also launch its anthology based on reviewed papers presented at last year's conference. The book is titled, "Missing Links in Sustainable Development: South Asian Perspectives". Dr Suleri said that the SDC series of the SDPI has become a vital means of imparting research findings to general public and policy-makers having emphasis on the emerging trends in sustainable development.
He said that 'it is an important channel of policy advice where every session of the conference is followed by a panel discussion consisting of representatives from the government, community representatives, NGOs and donor agencies'.
Besides keynote lectures, 14 panels are being organised under the sub-themes of globalisation, gender, environment and disaster management, health and history, he added.
Forty scholars would attend the conference from South Asia as well as from Europe and the USA to share their findings. Some of the prominent personalities invited to present lectures included Shoaib Sultan Khan, Chairman, National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Syed Babar Ali, Vice President Emeritus, World Wide Fund (WWF) and Dr Vandana Shiva, Physicist, Ecological Campaigner, Women's Rights Activist and Writer, New Delhi.
