The caretaker government has stopped National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for taking any action against politicians till elections to ensure political parties participation in the upcoming general elections to be held on January 8, 2008.
Talking to newsmen on Thursday, the Director General of NAB, Admiral Pervez Asghar pointed out the accountability process was not slowed but it was decided to halt action against the two former premiers Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and other politicians to ensure holding of free and fair elections.
He noted that the hearing of the cases in the NAB courts against Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and other politicians were postponed, adding that the NAB process would be taken forward after the upcoming polls.
The NAB DG said that NAB had already approved the decision of not to interfere in the election process.
He said the accountability process was made transparent and no one above the law policy had been implemented and said every one should play their role for elimination of corruption. He noted that the NAB also launched campaign against corruption in health, judiciary, local governments, police, excise and other departments, adding that their target is to create friendly environment between police and masses.
