A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) headed by Lahore High Court chief justice issued show cause notices to the Punjab chief secretary , the Capital City Police Officer, district Police Officer (Operation) Lahore and directed them to appear before court and explain as to why they not be proceeded against in contempt jurisdiction for not complying the courts orders in letter and spirit for maintaining law and order in the area of judges residence.
The court also ordered them to explain in written with regard to steps taken by them to comply with the directions, issued by this court. The court said the eviction of an former judge from official residence and was not considered even for a movement that the former judge who continued occupying the official residence after December 2 was liable to pay Rs 65,000 per mensem for two months plus Rs 130,000 per mensem for the subsequent period.
The accountant general Punjab and provincial government can recovered this amount from the occupants of the official residences. The office has already informed the accountant general Punjab about the matter who in the due course can initiate recovery proceedings in accordance with rules.
Court observed that certain elements who spring out of now here in an organised manner, and try to disrupt the national life, on absolutely non-issues, have started creating law and order situation in a purely residential area, where residences of the judges of the High Court are located and outsiders ordinarily are not allowed. For several days, unruly mobs continue to gather there and cause problems for the people of locality till midnight chanting slogans. They tried to stop official cars including that of judges of this court. The registrar and secretary to Chief Justice were directed to call upon the Chief Secretary, CCPO to ensure that no-unlawful activity is carried out in the locality. No concrete steps were taken by these functionaries to comply with the directions given by this court. They failed to comply with the directions given by this court are liable to be proceeded against in the contempt jurisdiction of this court.
