A number of lawyers, journalists and policemen sustained injuries in a clash at Chowk Kutchery on Thursday when lawyers broke all barriers and moved to Chowk Kutchery for staging a demonstration. The Demonstrators also damaged two police vehicles and slapped on the face of DSPs. Police resorted to baton charge to disperse them.
Then lawyers carrying black flags beat the cops with the flag-sticks. DSP Muhammad Naeem Babur said: "Lawyers have violated the Section 144 CrPC by coming out of the courts boundaries and a number of young lawyers attacked the police party and snatched their caps, sticks and metal-shields when they asked them to stay within boundaries."
He said that a complaint was lodged against some lawyers for violating the restrictions and attacking the policemen. Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Vice-Chairman Mirza Aziz Akbar baig said: "Our rally was peaceful and we want to stage a demonstration at the Chowk, but police baton-charged our rally unwarrantedly and police injured our three senior lawyers which infuriated the young lawyers who retaliated", adding: "We want the judges who have been removed illegally and unconstitutionally from their offices to be reinstated, and the Constitution should be restored and the fundamental rights of the people should be restored."
"Until the reinstatement of the other judges, we will not appear before high courts and the Supreme Court", he added. "Lawyers abandoned their legal tomes on Thursday and took to LMQ Road , yelling slogans and punching the air in protest at President Pervez Musharraf's purge of the judiciary.
Chanting "Go Musharraf Go", President of Multan Press Club also protested on beating the photographers of "Khabrain," Ausaf " Nawa-i-Waqt and breaking their cameras and demanded an inquiry into the incident.
