The frontiers of education in all fields, especially in science and technology, have been expanded and quality education help resolve various problems of the country, said General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of the Army Staff here on Thursday.
If the educational system was put on right track and every one plays their role honestly, many problems will be solved, General Kayani said while addressing the 5th Postgraduate Convocation of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust), held at Army Medical College, Rawalpindi.
"We have not done well in the field of education and that's why we are struggling today to gain a rightful place in the comity of nations. But we hope the new graduates will be able to do what we could not", General Kayani said adding that Pakistani nation neither lack talent nor hard work but it was awfully lacking in discipline while spending their individual and collective lives.
He admired Nust to gain both in stature and substance with each passing year and said that one and a half decade was not a very long time for a university to grow and turn into a centre of excellence. But Nust has progressed and is now among the top 500 universities of the world, he said. The government has responded to the needs of higher education and Higher Education Commission (HEC) is doing a wonderful job today, General Kayani, who is also Pro-Chancellor of the Nust said. He called upon the graduates that Nust had equipped them with sound education and training in their respective fields. It was up to them to continually build on this solid academic foundation and embrace the best in professional learning and advancement.
