The Punjab Food department has released one-day additional wheat quota to flour mills to ensure bazaars get enough flour and ease the shortages. Department sources told Business Recorder here on Friday that mills received 1,250 metric tonnes of wheat daily but today they got a double quota. They said they were selling the flour to 32 special sale points.
They said in Ramazan, the mills had supplied an estimated 70,000 flour bags per day for Lahore and the current wheat was enough to provide 50,000 bags per day by the mills in Lahore, while markets in Lahore were also supplemented by the mills in Sheikhupura.
They said now the wheat quota and supply was moving neck to neck in Lahore and they would be able to assess the impact by the end of next week. The sources also said the Punjab Food department had also called for a record of the Pak Ghausia Flourmill in Lodhran to check for any irregularity. They said the department had also decided that the suspension of the wheat quota would now be for longer period, if any mill were found guilty. Meanwhile, reports say people have trooped the city because of the flour situation.
