The people particularly those who are the patients of chronic obstructive pulmonary or heart diseases should get vaccination against Pneumonia in order to prevent themselves from the Pneumococcus bacterium and influenza virus during winter season.
In winter season, Pneumonia could cause infection of small air sacs of the lungs and surrounding tissues, which could develop inflammation and deterioration of lung function and the lungs become unable to easily transfer oxygen to the blood and ensuring smooth work of breathing.
Eminent physician and Head of the Department of Paediatric, Dr Salma Sheikh informed this while talking to this scribe here on December 03.
She further informed that the pneumonia occurs in people of all ages but it catches more commonly among elders and children in whom it tends to be far more serious. She said that the Pneumonia often affects only a portion of a single lung but could harm the entire lung or even both lungs and in many older persons, the lung infection spreads beyond the lungs. The infection could also enter into blood, she added.
