General elections are fast approaching as the time keeps ticking past pretty fast. Apparently, there is no possibility of polls scheduled to be held on January 8 postponed and rescheduled as such. So, there is very little left for the political and religious parties and alliances to make preparations for going to the electorate.
But most of the Opposition parties and their leadership continue to persist on looking the other way and sticking to their ill-advised decision of not contesting the polls and as such betraying their electorate straightaway. This is not something which even their supporters and sympathisers are going to like, approve and appreciate.
They should try to be realistic, appreciate the ground realities and not leave the election arena for others to occupy in a walkover style. If they contest the polls, which they are obliged to do by their electorate, then they would have their candidates elected to the National and Provincial Assemblies and thus they would get an effective and powerful forum to voice their demands there.
They would also be in a position to take the newly-formed Federal and Provincial Governments, whatever the case may be, to the task and keep them on the right path and by taking adequate measures through legislations for the welfare and well-being of the masses at large. The electorate are surely looking towards them and they should not be betrayed by resorting to undemocratic and negative tactics.
