President Pervez Musharraf has said that the construction of Kalabagh Dam is very essential for the progress and development of the country and it will surely be constructed at the appropriate time.
The President, according to the reports in the newspapers, said this while participating in PTV's programme "Aiwan-e-Sadr Sey" and responding to the questions from the audience pertaining to various matters of national importance.
There is hardly any need to emphasise the importance of the Kalabagh Dam which has been in the pipeline for more than five decades without the long awaited dream far from being materialised so far.
It is a known fact that several million acres of water is going waste every year as no additional storage facility has been provided despite accepting the dire need for the same.
I am an agriculturist and as such fully aware of the importance of water and also what would happen if, God forbid, famine like situation is created with no water available for sowing the crops, what to talk about for drinking purposes.
The drought like situation is looming large on the horizon. The sooner Kalabagh Dam is constructed the better it would be for keeping Pakistan all green with enough water available for crops and not a single drop in excess of what is essentially required being allowed to go as waste into the sea. But the billion dollar question remains: will such a good time come in our lifetime?
