Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal), Prince Essa Jan Baloch said here on Tuesday that government would establish as many as 2600 livestock farms to enhance meat and milk production in the country.
"Under the livestock farms' project, the government will provide technical and financial assistance to farmers for establishing farms," the minister said adding the project will be launched with private sector support.
He said about 1500 people have already approached the government for establishing farms adding that primary work has also been started. He said keeping in view the important role the livestock has been playing in enhancing the national economy, the government has launched various mega projects costing Rs 6.8 billion. He said prime minister's Special Programme for Livestock Development would be completed with the collaboration of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in rural areas.
He said, under the programme medical facilities to livestock would be provided in 1900 tehsils of 80 district of the country adding that 7500 rural livestock workers would also be trained to provide medical treatment to animals.
He said that project for providing medical facilities at the doorstep of farmers was important for the improvement of livestock services. The minister said that European Union has provided technical and financial assistance for this project to help the government improve livestock sector in the country.
