Caretaker Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Afzal Haider on Thursday said that a legislation to compensate the judges, who ceased to hold their offices on November 3 is in final stage.
This legislation will provide relief to the judges, who are otherwise not entitled to pension or any other monetary benefits after ceasing to hold their offices, he told a visiting foreign delegation, according to a press release of the ministry. The delegation led by Maureen Byrnees, executive director of US-based NGO, The Human Rights and Charles Lister Associate, met the minister. Afzal Haider informed the delegation that 5,754 detainees have already been released.
He assured the delegation that elections will be held in free and fair manner, and all political parties are being given a level playing field. Lifting of emergency on schedule will prove instrumental in further creating a conducive atmosphere for free, fair and transparent elections, he added. He said the fact of the matter is that a vast number of political parties are actively participating in the electoral process and the news of their activities is reflected in the media on regular basis.
