Amir of Jamat-i-Islami and MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that they would mobilise the public opinion for boycotting the polls. In an interview with a private TV channel he said that the JI leaders and activists would go to the offices of the Returning Officers across the country in rallies to withdraw the nomination papers.
These rallies, he said, will create awareness in the masses against the meaningless elections. He said they would also visit constituencies of all candidates to inform the people that there is no freedom as the Supreme Court has been assaulted and judiciary destroyed. The media is not allowed to work freely in the country, he added.
About the election boycott he said that all those intending to participate in the elections are also making hue and cry that elections are not going to be transparent. So when they know that the elections are not going to be fair, there is a one-man rule and Martial Law in the country, then why are you going for the elections?
To another query Qazi said, "We don not say that we will not take part in the elections but we want free and fair polls which are not possible under the supervision of Pervez Musharraf."
