Sindh Fisheries Department has issued an order for stopping offshore inspection against the use of prohibited fishing nets by fishing boats. However, the drive against prohibited nets will continue near shore and in creeks.
This step has been taken to facilitate fishermen community which was disturbed over deep sea check of fishing launches for prohibited nets. The boat owners will now concentrate on boat modification, which is essential for lifting EU ban.
The order was issued after a meeting between a four-member FCS committee and Secretary Fisheries and Livestock Muhammad Siddique Memon. Meanwhile Administrator Fishermen's Co-operative Society (FCS) Tahir Mazhar Dada has appointed Mohammad Ghazanfar Ali Boota as manager of the Society.
According to an announcement, Boota was retired several years ago after serving the Society for the last 43 years. The Administrator has also announced to pay December's salary to FCS employees before Eid-ul-Azha as the financial position of the Society has improved.
The Society has also distributed salaries for the month of November. It may be noted that the FCS's kitty was empty and the Society was not even able to pay its utility bills.
