Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Ejaz Nisar has directed that maximum trees and flowers be planted on both sides of the Lahore Canal to add more to its beauty. He said a complete survey of the Lahore Canal must be conducted to repair broken portions of its banks and ordered the implementation of laws on environmental protection.
He was chairing a meeting with regard to beautification of Lahore Canal and tree plantation in the provincial metropolis at Chief Minister Secretariat, here on Friday. The chief minister praised the shifting of trees through transplant method in the implementation of the project of repair and construction of the roads along Lahore Canal.
He stressed the need of maximum tree plantation in the province in the interest of environmental protection, stability of economy as well as meeting the growing energy requirements.
The chief minister directed the PHA to take care of the rehabilitation and renovation of recreational parks in the backward areas of Lahore. He said that evergreen trees and flowers be planted for the beautification of the city and the services of experts of horticulture be availed for the care and protection of the plants.
He said that government is paying special attention to improvement of means of communication as quality infrastructure plays a pivotal role in traffic management and provision of civic amenities to the citizens.
PHA Director General Raja Mohammad Abbas informed the meeting that the World Flower Arranger Festival would be held in Lahore between March 5 and 9 where foreign experts would also participate.
He said the maximum participation of citizens would be ensured. Communication and Works Secretary Ahsan Raja, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Yousaf Naseem Khokhar, Parks and Horticulture Authority Director General Raja Mohammad Abbas and PHA Director Azhar Sulehria were also present.
