Small Scale Irrigation project has been prepared for the improvement of irrigation sector in the province for which World Bank would provide 25 million dollars. This information was given to Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani by a mission of World Bank which called on him here on Friday.
Additional Chief Secretary Mohiuddin Marri and Secretary Irrigation Arbab Yusuf were also present. Governor was told that talks for this project were in the final stages and soon an agreement would be signed between the Bank and provincial government and work on the project would be started.
Appreciating the project Governor thanked World Bank for its cooperation. He said water sector occupies key importance for the development of agriculture in the province and government was striving to overcome water shortage and better utilisation of available water resources.
He said during the past seven eight years hundreds of small and big dams have been built in various parts of the province while there is plan to build 275 more check. Funds for 100 check dams have already been released. Besides he added 20 big dams would be built during the coming 5 years in Balochistan. Governor hoped that World Bank cooperation for irrigation, education and other sectors would continue.
