Greece's labour minister, in charge of implementing difficult pension reforms, was sacked on Saturday, the government said. "Labour Minister Vasilis Magginas submitted his resignation today the prime minister accepted his resignation," government spokesman Theodore Roussopoulos said in a statement.
The minister had faced a barrage of questions by the Greek press over the employment of an uninsured Indian family at his country home. He had denied any wrongdoing, saying they were his guests. Magginas had been picked to spearhead key reforms to rescue Greece's ailing pension system, expected to collapse in 15 years, but had faced strong street protests and strikes over his proposed measures.
