Police in its massive drive against illicit arms and proclaimed offenders achieved a major breakthrough by seizing a heavy cache of sophisticated weapons including kalashnikovs, rifles and pistols and arrested 60 outlaws during midnight operation on December15-16.
As per details, a vigorous campaign is in full swing in the provincial metropolis on the directions of Capital City Police Chief Additional IG Malik Mohammad Iqbal to purge the city of illicit arms and arrest of proclaimed offenders, so that peaceful and conducive atmosphere could be ensured on the eve of forthcoming general elections.
Special teams have been constituted for this purpose headed by all the divisional SPs of both wings.
SSP Operations Aftab Ahmad Cheema constituted two special teams under his supervision comprising SP Mughalpura Sajjad Hussain Munj and SP Investigation Cantt Division Babar Bukht Qureshi for launching a crackdown against illicit arms in Mughalpura Division.
These teams arrested 60 outlaws and recovered weapons including seven kalashnikovs, ten 222-rifles, eight 244-rifles, two 7-mm, three 303-rifles, one 8mm-rifle, one 9mm-rifle, one M16-rifle, one 30mm-rifle, twelve pump-actions, six 12-bore repeaters, 12 pistols and 916 bullets. All the eight police stations of Mughalpura Division took part in the said crackdown.
Inspector General Police Ahmad Naseem has highly appreciated the police teams for recovering huge cache of lethal weapons and announced Rs 50,000 and CC-I certificates for the first team while Rs 40,000 and CC-II certificates for the second police team. Likewise, CCPO has also announced Rs 5,000 each for constables Abdul Razzaq and Shahbaz Ahmad.
