District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has vowed that mega development schemes of 13 flyovers and underpasses would make a new history of neglected city of Hyderabad, which was once called "the Paris of the East."
The flyover of Latifabad Unit-7 is near to completion and would be opened by the end of current month while the construction of four new flyovers with one underpass would be started within few weeks time, the district Nazim said.
He stated this at a briefing for the consultants of Hyderabad Development Package regarding Geological Information System and construction of flyover/ bridges and underpasses here at his secretariat on Saturday.
He said the District Government has planned four new flyover/ bridges one each at Shahbaz Chowk along with Thandi Sarak, Latif Chowk (Poonam Petrol Pump) along Old National Highway, Giddu Chowk along Autobahn Road and Qasim Chowk along Old National Highway with single barrel underpass would also be constructed at the same place, only for one way traffic from Jail side, turning left on Old National Highway for Latif Chowk (Poonum Petrol Pump).
Besides, he said the construction work of three bridges on Old Phuleli (Pinyari), New Phuleli (Phuleli), Akram Wah (Lined Channel) parallel to old bridges on these canals at Hala Naka is in progress with a view to reduce the traffic pressure, which according to him, is causing multiple difficulties for the citizens and commuters from other sides of the country while passing through Hyderabad.
He said another scheme of construction of flyover at Lined Channel/ Mirpurkhas Road Railway crossing and bridge for approach to New Subzi Mandi are additional projects of the District Government. Jamil said having filtered water supply and an efficient sewerage system were an old demand of the people of Hyderabad.
He said in view of inefficient deliveries in these sectors, the District Government has planned to have provision of 80 MGD Filtered Water Supply to the citizens by 2015 adding that the implementation on development schemes of new filter plants and capacity building of existing new filter plant is in progress.
He said two new filter plants, one each of 8 MGD at Hala Naka and another at Paretabad are about to be completed while the capacity of new filter plant at Jamshoro Road is being enhanced from its present capacity 30 MGD to 50 MGD.
He said another filter plant with a capacity of 4 MGD has been proposed at Ganjo, Taluka Hyderabad, he said. Besides water supply, he said the drainage is a core issue of Hyderabad as such in addition to laying network of sub-surface sewerage system, a scheme for construction of Autobahn Road a and R.C.C. Drain has also been planned with its estimated cost of Rs 142.3 million.
He said Hyderabad Development Project has been divided into two major phases and the development works of subsurface nature were got completed in the first phase to ensure durability of the development works being undertaken in the second phase. Due to this schedule, he said all other nation building departments should complete their requirements before execution of our development works so as to avoid their losses.
He said all the development works of HDP are being carried out under the GIS system with detailed information to meet any eventuality of future requirement of the areas.
He said the purpose of this briefing was to take all the stakeholders and civic society onboard and seek their suggestion if there is any in their mind. Earlier, the representative from Osmani Consultants briefed about the importance of GIS system and its technical benefits in development works.
He said due to application of the GIS system, the District Government has been enable to maintain the record of the existing development data from street to district level.
