The "emergency" is over; we can now turn towards the second act of the drama which is called "free and fair election" (under the supervision of 65 American election observers!) of a "democratic" parliament and government. For the convenience of the public it was important to get as many political parties to participate as possible.
We have read in the newspapers already several informed guesses about election results of doubtlessly well informed analysts. But the real question which has to be asked is this: Will any of the guesses coming true or any other election result make a difference? Will the elections make any difference to Pakistani people who are miserably suffering due to spiral increase in the cost of living.
But unlike Western countries Pakistan, which has remained under misrule by successive governments, does need basic changes now in its socio-economic set-up as well as in its ideological framework. Feudal have no respect for the rule of law, they make their own laws, they have their own armies and security and their own prisons. They don't think that man is born free and that laws should apply to everyone equally.
