President Pervez Musharraf, while participating in the official television channel Programme, suggested that the business community, media and the government should join hands and devise a strategy for improving Pakistan's perception abroad.
This is indeed quite welcome and feasible suggestion and the quarters concerned should be working on it in right earnest. No other person than President Pervez Musharraf, who has all along been strongly advocating Pakistan should and must come first in all circumstances, as how important is it to have a positive and soft image of the country as a whole and its people in the comity of nations.
While Pakistan is fighting war on terror as a member of the US led international coalition and taking all possible steps to eliminate militants, extremists and terrorists, somehow the image of the Motherland internationally has somewhat been eroded.
President Pervez Musharraf has rightly cautioned for taking immediate steps for improving law and order situation in the context of operation against militants, extremists and terrorists otherwise it would become gradually difficult to maintain economic growth momentum for a brighter future of the country besides overcoming threats to national solidarity and security.
It is high time that the media, both print and electronic ones, businessmen and industrialists as well as the Federal Government through its down the line organisational set up take steps to formulate an effective strategy for improving Pakistan's image before the comity of nations.
Besides media, business community and the government, as suggested by the President, even individuals like well-known artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer can render invaluable service in this regard.
Furthermore, Pakistan Missions abroad should also be pulled up and directed to play their due role in promoting and strengthening Pakistan's soft image as a progressive, forward looking, moderate and tolerant nation internationally to justify the hefty salaries, allowances, privileges and perks they are drawing out of the national exchequer. Time is fast running out and every Pakistani has to play his/her role in their sphere of activity in this regard also.
