Provincial Human Rights and Population Welfare Minister Maqbool Elahi Malik has said that population welfare is in the interest of the nation and teachers should apprise the masses about its significance.
He stated this while addressing the concluding session of a two-day workshop on "Population and Development" organised by Ministry of Population Welfare in collaboration with the District Population Welfare Office, Lahore.
Malik said that population explosion result in promoting ignorance as overpopulation is a national burden. He was of the view that the concepts of population welfare should be promoted at the grassroots level.
Resources are limited while population is burgeoning at the expense of the peoples' future, he added. "It's prime time that we should think about the concept of small family", he said, adding that teachers are the best role models for the students. Other speakers highlighted the importance of family planning and the role of teachers in sensitising the people at the grass root level.
