People seem busy in finding a competent, expert butcher for slaughtering sacrificial animals, which often turns out to be a difficult task. Some people prefer sacrificing the animals themselves, following the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to gain additional blessings. While hiring a butcher is a usual option for the vast majority.
Professional butchers mostly prefer to wait for large orders to earn huge sum at one point and they charge heavily on Eid as the day is celebrated once in the year. The rates are at their peak on the first day of Eid but gradually reduce on the next two days. With Eid mere two days away, butchers are charging Rs 1500 to slaughter a goat or sheep, Rs 5,000 to 7,000 for a bull or calf and Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,000 for a camel.
Most butchers ask for advance payment before booking orders, although there is small variation in the rates from area to area. The butchers working in-groups earn Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for large animals like cows and bulls on the first day but their income reduces in the next days.
Following the recent trends, a great change was observed in the procedures as professional butchers instead of visiting houses stay at their shops where people bring in their animals. Zahoor, a I-10 Markaz butcher said that this has proved to be beneficial as the butchers are no longer wasting time in visiting houses.
