Punjab government will establish Industrial Advisory Boards to co-ordinate between industry in the province and federal government policy making in order to strengthen national industrial base and economic activity in the country.
This was disclosed by Mian Mohammad Shafique, Punjab Minister for Commerce and Investment. Addressing the Annual General Meeting and annual dinner of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association here on Tuesday night, he said that Punjab government has agreed in principle to set up two high level Advisory Boards to deal separately with the issues of commerce and investment.
Governor and Chief Minister Punjab would chair these boards which would have representation of all related federal and provincial departments in addition to the private sector, he added. "The specific issues of the commerce and investment would be identified in addition to suggesting their viable and practical solutions," he said and added that more than 50 percent issues could be resolved expeditiously at the provincial level.
Shafique said that a seminar on commerce and investment would also be held in Lahore on January 05, 2008. The seminar would be attended by the representatives of 18-19 chamber of commerce and industry besides 40 A and B class trade associations to give their input in identifying and giving viable proposals to resolve the business related issues, he added.
He said that commerce and investment ministry had prepared vision-2020 to transform Punjab into a fully developed industrial and commercial hub of Pakistan. In this connection, a detailed presentation would be given to the potential investors on traditional and non-traditional sectors, he added.
Shafique said that Punjab had huge potential in livestock and hotel industry and foreign investors are already investing in these mega projects. He urged upon the textile exporters to explore these new openings to earn project in addition to further gearing up the pace of development in this province.
He also underlined the importance of Faisalabad in national exports and said that a proposal to allot 200 kanals piece of land for an Expo-Centre of international standard has been forwarded and work on it would be started very soon. Earlier, Mian Zahid Aslam Chairman PTEA presented a detailed performance report. Tahir Ishaq Bharara, newly elected chairman PTEA, Azhar Majeed Sheikh, former chairman also addressed the meeting.
