Former president of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Businessmen Panel Vice Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik has said President Pervez Musharraf should ensure a fool-proof arrangement for holding free, fair and transparent general elections on January 8 to provide the voters an opportunity to elect their real representatives to steer Pakistan out of muli-dimensional crisis.
He said only fair and free general elections can grantee Pakistan's prosperity and progress. Iftikhar Ali Malik, in his statement issued on Thursday, said Pakistan is passing through a very critical phase, which demands right decisions to face the challenges being confronted with it.
He said some bold decisions were needed to overcome the problems such as law and order, power and gas shortage and provide the nation a clear direction for progressing on fast track basis.
He said President Musharraf has ensured consistency in the economic policies to help Pakistan gain benefits on economic front, but still Pakistan needs much more to overcome serious problems like law and order shortage in gas and power supplies and growing militancy.
The FPCCI former chief said the traders and industrialists were doing a great service to the nation by contributing towards providing jobs, widening industrial base and earning more exports to strengthen Pakistan's economy.
He said the private sector also needs to take more steps in reducing the gap between the poor and rich and create more opportunities for the jobless. Malik said that Eid-ul-Azha gives us a message that those who have more resources should share them with those who do not have sufficient resources to make their living standard better.
