Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has said that January 8 would mark the victory of the PPP and be acclaimed as a day of success for farmers and the downtrodden.
Addressing a public gathering at Jaccobabad on Thursday, she said the PPP represents all communities and all people have equal rights under the party manifesto, adding that her party has been struggling for the rights of the downtrodden people.
Concerning minority rights, the PPP chairperson said that her party had given status to minorities, adding that former Justice Bhagwandas had been appointed as justice by her party who belongs from this region of the interior Sindh.
She said that "Jacobabad" has always been the fort of the PPP and the people of this region, including Shikarpur, Sukkur and Khairpur loved her and would certainly support PPP candidiates.
Benazir Bhutto said that her father, Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto, had made the country as atomic power and established the Pakistan Steel Mills, she said, adding: During my last tenure, I had launched the anti-polio campaign throughout the country to save the children from disabilities."
She also took credit of initiating mega projects in the country, claiming Gwadar deep sea port, Makran Highway, Refineries, cell phone culture, Ghazi Barotha, etc, were initiated during her tenures. Not a single employee or worker was sacked during PPP's tenures, neither was any IRO imposed on the business community, she added.
Benazir said Pakistan came into being after people of the sub-continent gave innumerable sacrifices under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and not by the power of gun.
She said that the political orphans kept asking Musharraf not to doff uniform and extend the tenure of assemblies, but Musharraf kept his word with PPP by shedding his uniform and lifting emergency.
She also said that President Musharraf, during negotiation, had promised her that he would separate the military from the government, adding that another of the President's promises would be fulfilled when the caretaker government holds free, fair and transparent elections victory on January 8.
