In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has expressed hope that the ongoing Pakistan-India dialogue process will prove productive, making a breakthrough on the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Mirwaiz in a media interview in Srinagar said that although the results of the talks between Hurriyat leadership and the Indian government had not proved to be result-oriented so far, but the people of Kashmir were fully confident that Pak-India talks process, to be resumed soon after elections in Pakistan, would bring about a permanent resolution of the dispute.
He favoured Kashmir-specific confidence building measures (CBMs) between India and Pakistan, including demilitarisation, stopping of human rights violations and release of prisoners.
The APHC Chairman also said that despite the assurance of zero tolerance by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against human rights violations, the human rights abuses were on the rise in the held Valley. The death and destruction must be stopped, he added.
