As many as 16 candidates are contesting for three national assembly seats and 29 for the five provincial assembly seats in Narowal district. The total registered voters in the district are 640517 out of them 285435 are female.
The district is consisted of two tehsils of Narowal and Shakargrah. The contestants, who belong to different political parties and some are independent, have started their election campaign with corner meetings in their respective constituencies.
The candidates and their supporters have launched extensive campaign by paying door to door visits to voters for galvanising more support in their favour in scheduled general elections. Banners and billboards featuring pictures of contenders and elections' slogans have been displayed every where in the city.
Some prominent political leaders including Riffat Javed of PML-Q, Anwar-ul-Haq of PPP (P) and Ahsan Iqbal of PML-N, former federal health Minister Naseer Ahmad Khan of ML-Q, Tariq Ashraf Kahlon of PPP (P) Mansoor Sarwar of PML-N, Danial Aziz of PML-Q, Gulzar Ahmad of PPP (P) and Ishfaq Taj of PML-N are in the run. A total of 621 polling stations would be set up out for voting in the district.
