The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is considering a proposal to provide home delivery service of heavy luggage through courier service to air passengers. Sources in the FBR told Business Recorder on Wednesday that Pakistan Customs had submitted this proposal to the FBR, aimed at facilitating passengers.
According to the source, the proposal is being vetted by the FBR to ensure that no extra burden should be placed on air passengers, besides identifying the role of courier services in its transportation.
The leading courier services, including the DHL, TCS and OCSm, have also supported the idea, as it would boost their business and commercial activities in the country, the FBR sources said. The sources said that the proposal was a part of the reform programme, being introduced by the FBR in its various departments to facilitate its consumers.
The passengers, who were fed up with the long procedure, adopted by the customs' officials in clearing their luggage at airports, would be facilitated by this proposal, the sources added. The proposal, if approved, would help passengers avoid consuming procedures at different domestic airports for delivery of their luggage. The sources further said business community would also support the idea.
It may be pointed out that in-house customs facility for inbound shipments has already been launched by DHL courier service in collaboration with the customs at its Karachi Gateway operations to provide in-time delivery of shipments for the commercial users.
