Sindh Revenue department has failed to establish a 'Legal Cell' meant to deal with the cases pertaining to revenue land in courts as Sindh government already suffered a loss of billions of rupees after losing such cases in courts in recent months.
Sources in Board of Revenue (BoR) told Business Recorder here that major reason behind Sindh government's woes was the negligence of Mukhtiarkars who had failed to maintain record regarding court proceedings and follow cases in a suitable manner.
To overcome this problem and to maintain the record of court proceedings, department decided to establish Legal cell to avoid further loss of cases in future, they said and added but no measures in this regard had been taken yet.
A meeting was held in this regard to review the causes for high ration of loosing the cases under chairmanship of Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, former Sindh Revenue Minister, few months back, which suggested to establish the cell, sources said.
Sindh Land Utilisation has floated a summary for establishing the Legal Cell, comprising of six officers including four from City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and two from Interior Sindh, but no further development has been made so far.
The summary accompanied by a proposal of recurring expenditure with regard to day-to- day expenditure incurring on preparation of comments and a provision for hiring private advocates was submitted.
