Mourning and protests continued across Sindh on Saturday following the assassination of Chairperson of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Ms Benazir Bhutto.
Throughout the region, a complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed as army and rangers started patrolling in various cities, including Sukkur, Khairpur, Jaccobabad, Kashmore and Ghotki districts of the region, to maintain law and order.
The Army started patrolling in rural and urban areas of the interior Sindh to maintain law and order. About 3,800 army men have been deployed only in Sukkur, Khairpur districts, while the army is also deployed in Rohri, Pano Akil, Kandhkot, Gambat and others areas.
However, curfew was imposed in Jaccobabad, Kashmore and Sukkur late Friday night. The workers and activists of PPP continued protesting on the streets of Sukkur on Friday evening, setting scores of vehicles on fire and damaging public and private properties in the city. Angry protesters have blocked the rail link, which was also affected because of firing and arson incidents in Sukkur and adjoining areas.
Firing incidents were also reported from various areas and at some places law-enforcement agencies scuffled with protesters to restrict their movement. Rangers continued patrolling the affected areas of the town. The citizens faced hardships is getting items of daily use because of closure of all the main markets and shops located in small lanes. Army, rangers are patrolling various cities, including Sukkur.
