Romanian leu falls to three-week low

The Romanian leu hit a three-week low against the euro on Friday, in thin interbank trading dominated by commercial flows, dealers said.
One of Europe's best performing currencies in the first half of this year, the leu has fallen sharply against the euro from a 5-year high in the summer on concerns over the sustainability of the fast-growing economy and a yawning current account deficit.
The leu was less volatile in December, as seasonal remittances from Romanian workers abroad prevented the unit from falling steeply, dealers said. At 0835 GMT, the leu was trading at 3.5668/32 against the euro, after hitting a low of 3.5725 earlier in the session. It closed at 3.5426 on Thursday. Overnight rates were quoted at 7.36/8.08 percent.
