Six security guards and two policemen were killed when Taliban attacked a convoy, hauling supplies to foreign forces in southern Afghanistan, police said on Sunday. The attack took place in Maidan Shar district of southern Wardak province on Sunday morning, Muzafar Ali, provincial police chief told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
"Six security guards and two police, who were escorting the convoy were killed when Taliban fired a rocket propelled grenade from their vehicle against the convoy," Ali said. He said that four other guards were wounded in the attack, which happened on Kabul-Kandahar highway, some 30 kilometres south of Kabul.
He could not give any details regarding the security company that was escorting the convoy, but said that the supplies were destined for foreign forces. Taliban insurgents since the ouster of their government in late 2001, have attacked dozens of convoys supplying logistics to international forces in the country.
