Sindh Democratic Forum (SDF) in a statement issued here said that the murder of the incomparable Benazir has removed the finest daughter of Sindh and has also snuffed out the last hope of 40 million Sindhis for a better deal from the federation of Pakistan.
An emergent meeting of the Forum was held in Hyderabad, which was attended by Abrar Kazi (convenor), renowned scholar Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo, Zulfiqar Halepoto secretary Nazir Memon, Dr Nazir Shaikh, Aslam Baloch besides other members of the Forum.
The statement said that the civil military establishment combined with immigrant bureaucracy, epitomised by Pervez Musharraf, is a culprit responsible for the murder of their queen. Finger pointing at al Qaeda, Baitullah Mehsud and jihadis is considered a pathetic attempt to divert the attention from the crime of the mafia, which sees its death in the return of democracy and peoples rule, it added.
It said that the proof of the establishment's culpability is provided by the interior ministry in its screening of the video footage of Benazir's last moments before the blast.
The terrorists hand holding the pistol is much too steady for a person about to blow himself up, the statement said adding even the filming of the video footage is professional and so strategically located that it can only be the work of persons deeply involved in the crime itself.
This is clearly the doing of the agencies that are the killing arms of the establishment. The statement said that the enormous loss to Sindh, Pakistan and to the movement to bring democracy to the country can start to be addressed only if President Pervez Musharraf immediately resigns and a national government of consensus is formed that should hold elections and transfer power to the people.
In this hour of trial when the country has reached a distinct crossroad of either the rule of law and constitution or that of discredited and worthless generals and the corrupt and stupid establishment, the responsibility on the Peoples Party is enormous, it added.
It said that Benazir was a truly world class leader with wisdom beyond her years and monumental energy. "We suggest that to run the affairs of her party, a presidium of leadership from all provinces should be elected that should reorganise the Peoples Party to turn into a well oiled and efficient machine,' it added.
SDF appeals to all the people of Sindh that the death of their sister and queen, should be turned into the strength of Sindhi people, it said and added that people should be careful and vigilant to not to get the anti-establishment political sentiment of Sindh people in to some other direction, as agencies will try to hard to criminalise and divert the movement into some narrow roads.
The direction of any movement should be to take Sindh and Pakistan towards a destiny of democratic governance, peoples rule, ethnic harmony, peace and prosperity, it said.
