"The United States of America is looking for a "get-through" into Pakistan's nuclear assets and it has nothing to do with any particular politician no matter whether it is President Pervez Musharraf or Nawaz Sharif". The former Federal Minister, and PML candidate for NA-55 and 56, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Friday.
Ahmed while addressing a corner meeting at Lal Haveli urged people to unite to protect Pakistan's sovereignty. "We should protect our nuclear assets that are mark of our country's sovereignty. The US has already started weaving net around Pakistan wants to create anarchy in the country and there are apprehensions that it would use all means for fanning sectarianism during Muharramul Haram", he added.
Former minister said that the government would frustrate the evil designs of the external forces plan foolproof security arrangements during the Muharram. Further, he said that the government, advised by the world powers, promulgated the National Reconciliatory Ordinance (NRO) to give safe passages to the politicians living in self-exile outside the country. Now these politicians are enjoying the benefit of the NRO and don't criticise the government policies harshly, he added.
He said that the Jamat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are playing the role of real opposition. He said that Asif Zardari was not in a position to run the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) therefore the party would disintegrate after Benazir Bhutto's Chehlum.
Ahmed also announced to hold a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh on February 16. He accused that the PPP and PML-N workers have allegedly removed party banners, posters and billboards of the PML-Q. "We could have reciprocated the action but showed tolerance and did not removed any single banner or flag of the opposition", he added.
Rashid further promised that he would take up the compensation issue of Liaqat Bagh suicide bombing victims with Punjab chief minister to give Rs 300, 000 to each family.
