The wheat flour shortage has pinched the city's public since neither the 20- kilogramme flour bags nor the unpacked flour is available. Shopkeepers are reported selling wheat flour for Rs 22 per kilogramme while the Chakki flour prices are touching Rs 25 per kilogramme.
Although the flour supply improved after the Eid-ul-Azha for a few days, there is a shortage of bags in the open market, Yasir Farooq said. The 20-kilogramme bag is only available at Utility Stores but in a limited quantity and as soon as new supplies reach, customers empty the stores leaving no chance for others to get them.
Some of the shops are selling a bag as high as Rs 400. Although flour mills are getting a full supply quota of wheat, they are grinding only a portion of the same, causing the shortage , said Chakki flour shopkeeper Ghulam Mustafa.
