The Senate sub-committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs here in its meeting directed the Ministry of Interior, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration to keep a vigil on the affairs of housing societies in their jurisdiction.
It should be done to ensure transparency and efficiency in the functioning of housing societies and securing the interests of their members. The meeting held under the convenorship of Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi observed that the mandate of the sub-committee was to check the malpractice's reportedly committed by a number of housing societies.
On the other hand, it is working to facilitate the good, efficient and law-abiding societies in getting approval of their development plans and in speedy completion of other formalities. The Senate body hoped that the practice would eliminate fake housing societies.
It also directed that a new administrator should take over the Pak PWD housing society and make arrangements for holding of fresh elections to the new office bearers in a transparent manner.
The sub-committee directed administration of AGOCHS to intimate in writing the progress made so far in the development of plots and the hurdles being faced by it. The members also expressed their surprise over the fact that the charge of its Phase II has not been handed over to the management despite repeated requests. The other members include Senators Kamran Murtaza and Mrs Gulshan Saeed.
