The only peaceful solution to the outstanding Kashmir issue lies in the implementation of the United Nations resolutions adopted in 1949 giving Kashmiris the choice to decide their fate and future under UN supervised plebiscite.
This was stated by speakers at different functions held in connection with "right to self-determination" day observed here on Saturday by the Kashmiris like other parts of the country and all over the world in a bid to remind the United Nations as well as the international community of its mandatory and obligatory role in fulfilling its commitment regarding the implementation of UN Security Council adopted resolutions on Kashmir.
Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan leaders, including Hafiz Salman Butt, Ameerul Azeem Ziauddin Ensari and Mohammad Naveed Anwar said here on Saturday that lasting peace in Pakistan and India couldn't be established without the resolution of Kashmir issue. They said Kashmir problem has been put into cold storage due to wrong policies of President Pervez Musharraf.
They said over 100,000 people laid down their lives for the resolution of Kashmir issue and they were still rendering sacrifices of life and property for the solution to this issue. They expressed full solidarity with the Kashmiris waging a just struggle for the grant of right to self-determination. They also rejected the Kashmir Policy of the government.
Addressing a function organised by the Jamiat Talba Arabia Pakistan, its President Mohammad Ghias said India is not sincere in resolving the Kashmir problem. He called upon the international community to exert pressure on India for the solution to this outstanding issue so the lasting peace could be ensured in the region.
