The newly appointed Punjab University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that upholding of university faculty's honour and prestige as well as upgradation of university's academic standards will remain his top most priority.
He said this while addressing a special meeting of university administration officials here on Saturday. Professor Kamran said that he would always honour administration officials and teachers' suggestions so that the university status could be upgraded and brought at par with international universities.
He said that he wanted to create a democratic environment in the university, where each teacher as well as employee could freely express his opinion for the development of the university. He said he would wipe out bureaucratic attitudes prevailing in the university and restore teachers' prestige without any discrimination.
He said he would run the university according to four principles - Money, Material, Machine and Men - and take the university to new heights. Mujahid Kamran said he would restore participation of all cadres university teachers in university committees, besides giving due representation to women teachers that comprise over 30 percent of university faculty strength.
He said the university would hold regular meetings of all committees and statutory bodies including Senate, Syndicate, Academic Council and Finance & Planning and decisions taken would be circulated widely to ensure merit and transparency. He said selection board meetings would be held on priority basis to over come the shortage of faculty in the university.
He further said improvement in university's service sector would be focused so that public problems could be rectified and their trust in the university be restored. In order to address public complaints, he said a special Complaint and Suggestion Cell would be established, where open door policy would be observed.
He also directed the IT department to complete database and update university website on regular basis so that university and its affiliated colleges students as well as private candidates could download different forms ie Admission Form, Registration Form, N.O.C. Form, Rechecking Form etc.
Discussing energy crisis in the country, he stressed that university's engineering department should develop small and large power plants so that the power failure issues could be addressed within the university as well as surrounding localities of the university.
The VC also constituted a committee headed by Hailey College of Banking Finance Principal Professor Dr Khawaja Amjad Saeed to raise funds and activate university alumni. The committee has been given a task to give suggestions and outlook to bring Punjab University at par with top foreign universities.
