On the directive of Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, the city district government has completed the construction work of five centres of Heart Diseases Institute in different parts of the city at a cost of one billion rupees.
The establishment of these centres is aimed at providing better medical facilities to low and middle income people in the city's suburbs, especially those residing in Katchi Abadis. These centres are being set up in Karachi's oldest Katchi Abadi Orangi Town, Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony and Landhi. A four-storeyed modern building is being constructed in the precincts of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases in F.B. Area.
The construction of these buildings has been completed, while measures are being taken for purchase of machinery and posting of staff so that provision of medical facilities could be started at the earliest.
On the directive of Mustafa Kamal, the CDGK has paid special attention to health department during the last two years and made its hospitals and medical centres functional, while various projects started for construction of five centres of KIHD and expansion of the Institute itself where Rs 400 million are being spent on provision of latest equipment and machinery.
Besides, Rs 180 million are being spent on construction of a new hospital of heart diseases in Landhi's Babar Market area, Rs 130 million on construction of new building for heart diseases in Korangi and Rs 70 million on new building for heart diseases in Orangi Town and would soon be handed over to respective Medical Superintendents.
On the directive of Nazim Karachi, cheaper and quality medical facilities will be provided to residents as are made available at the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases. It may be mentioned here that treatment provided at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases is far cheaper than other government and private hospitals.
