The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has decided to confiscate land of all such co-operative housing societies, who have not yet started construction of houses or development of infrastructure even after a passage of long time of allotment of land to them.
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has asked the housing societies that they being given a final opportunity to start construction of houses and development work or else their allotment will be cancelled.
He said the city government will provide all utilities to societies undertaking construction of house by their members and also starting development work so the housing problems of people could be solved.
Mustafa Kamal pointed out that in Scheme-33, a number of allotted lands have been retrieved from land mafia and work on roads, lights, water and sewerage lines started.
He told the societies to start construction of houses on land retrieved from mafia.
The City Nazim said the city government has revived the schemes lying in abeyance for the last 30 years and started fast development work. However, there are dozens of such societies who had obtained land from the government on cheaper rates for providing better housing facilities.
Mustafa Kamal said it is the desire of the government that the people are provided with better and cheaper housing facilities and satisfactory work in this regard is being done through development authorities.
He, however, noted the private societies failed in this task and paid no attention to the fulfillment of desired objectives. Therefore, the government has decided to confiscate all such land where societies have not yet started work. However, before this final action, they are being provided one more opportunity to immediately start construction work to avoid allotment cancellation.
